New Zealand Hosts a Menagerie of Attractions for Every Type of Traveller
New Zealand is known worldwide as the adrenaline chasers dream, but as well as that, it hosts a menagerie of attractions for every type of traveller. From the couple on their honeymoon wanting to relax, the businessman looking to do something different, the family with children of all ages, or the adrenaline junkie wanting to experience the trip of a lifetime, you need to look no further.
For the more relaxed traveller, think about heading to Rotorua and bathing at Hells Gate Waiora Spa, featuring the largest hot waterfall in the southern hemisphere as well as a mud-spewing volcano and delicious mud baths. The area is steeped in a rich history, so as well as rejuvenating, takes some time to learn about the past. Similar to Rotorua’s hot springs, is Hanmer Springs, a quaint little town in the South Island that houses its own thermal hot pools, head there in the winter for a special treat, bathing in hot pools against a backdrop of snow covered mountains.
If you’re on business in Auckland, the country’s biggest city, take a ferry across to Waiheke and spend a day at some of the island’s incredible vineyards and beaches. For the more adventurous businessman spend a night out at Spookers, a haunted house attraction located in Karaka at an old mental institution. Or, head three hours north and visit Zion Wildlife Gardens, featuring white lions and tigers as well as many other big cats.
The family can also take children out to Spookers as they have a family fun section, tailored to scare the little ‘creepers!’
Other family attractions in Auckland include Rainbows End, New Zealand’s largest theme park, and Kelly Tarlton’s, a public aquarium that features interactive fun for the entire family. If you’re headed for the South Island, think about checking out the Antarctic Centre in Christchurch, featuring a simulated snowstorm!
And finally for the adventurous traveller, head to Queenstown and check out all it has to offer, from bungy jumps to skydives, paragliding and jet rides. Queenstown is also known for its bustling nightlife, so no day will be the same! As well as attracting adrenaline junkies, Queenstown is perfect for the more relaxed traveller, head to Arrowtown or Wanaka for lunch before indulging in the fine cuisine overlooking the gorgeous Lake Wakatipu. After Queenstown, head north and visit the Fox Glacier – with options to walk up, or take a helicopter ride to truly take in the magnificence of it.
